This home was everything I had dreamed of and more—a true slice of paradise.From the moment we arrived, we felt at peace. Tucked into lush greenery with breathtaking ocean views, it was the perfect setting for our family to gather, relax, and celebrate our daughter’s wedding. Every detail of the home made it feel warm, welcoming, and intentionally designed for families to make lasting memories.The spacious layout, the incredible lanai, the cozy bedrooms—it all felt like home, but better. Hale Luana truly lives up to its name, offering a heavenly place to connect, unwind, and soak in the beauty of Hawaii. There was such a feeling of peace here. Very spacious, it even has a sitting area to chat or just pick up one of the many books provided. We enjoyed the Large Lanai every morning & evening, taking in the views, and the beautiful music of nature. If we had a question or needed anything, James was there- he's great! All we can say is, we loved the place and wish we could have stayed longer. Would we go back? Absolutely!!! Thanks again to the owner for sharing your beautiful home! William E
  • Mar 28, 2025 This house is a way to experience true Hawaii! We wanted to get away from the harsh Boston winter and thought of trying something different as it was our first visit to Big Island. This house did not disappoint, pictures in the listing did not do it justice. The house is beautiful! Clean and well stocked with every amenity you can imagine. The open plan living room/dining area is furnished with high end teak furniture, modern and clutter free. The kitchen looked like it was from a magazine. The expansive Lanai with ocean views stretched across the width of the house. Each of the end master bedrooms had french doors opening to the lanai, We slept with the doors open all night, lulled by the sound of ocean waves. It was the best nights’ sleep ever! We woke to the crows of roosters and the moos of cows. The pantry was well stocked with spices and basics, anything else needed was a short drive to Foodland in the next town of Waimea. We were happy that James, the host and caretaker was a text away. He lives in the unit below and whenever we needed anything he would appear with it. He is a delight to talk to, very knowledgeable about the area. We did day trips to Volcano Park, Waipio Valley, had a fancy dinner at Merriman’s, Hawaiian cowboy BBQ at Fish and Hog and malasadas at Tex-Drivein. The historic town of Honokaa is 10 minutes away, we loved the little museum. Farmers’ markets and Wednesdays and Saturdays are a must-see. We are making plans to come back next winter. Herman L

The large lanai was ideal for sipping morning coffee while watching the ocean. We enjoyed meals and playing cards at the large dining table. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was spacious, and everything was very clean. Bring earplugs as the roosters and cows are noisy before 5 AM. There is no ceiling fan in Bedroom #4. Mary A

They left the front porch and parlor lights on for us; it was so warm and welcoming. All questions I had were answered quickly! Family style. We picked oranges from the tree in the yard and used the juicer for fresh orange juice:) The hot tub was wonderful and the home was well supplied for beach trips (towels, chairs, umbrella, etc). The hosts were friendly, responsive and very helpful. If you're looking for a place to relax that's quiet with a beautiful view this home is for you. Patrick A

  • Mar 11, 2024 We had a wonderful stay at Hale Luana. It was restful & generally quiet. That was much appreciated. The house was well-equipped and all on one level. The kitchen was amazing. The Lani and view are amazing. Every room just called for you to spend time there. A sitting area just off the entrance became my wife's favorite location for her craft work. I used one end of the dinning table to set up my laptop and the files I brought to work on. The view out to the ocean will capture you attention. We watched three whales linger in the area and performed their courtship frolic. You are an hour's drive away from Akaka Falls and two world-class botanical gardens. In the other direction you have the isolated Waipio Valley. Having James & Louise nearby available for questions or assistance is a big plus for this property. If you have an issue or need it gets address promptly. When we return to this corner of Hawaii we intend to stay here again. Glenn M

  • Apr 30, 2023 Loved our stay! Place and location were amazing. Quiet and out of the way with great views, but super close to Honoka’a and Waimea, with restaurants and grocery stores. And only 45 min from great west side beaches. Place was perfectly clean, contrary to some previous reviews, and well stocked. Hosts were friendly and communicative (via text) but definitely gave us privacy. I wouldn’t even have known that they were on site. Biggest complaint was being woken up at 3am by the neighborhood roosters, but I can’t blame the hosts for that. 🙂 As of this review the listing mentions a pool, but there isn’t one. Just a hot tub. But that didn’t bother us in the least. Would definitely return. Jake L

This house was one of the most well stocked VRBO's I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in countless. The location was isolated and perfect with a beautiful lanai to take it all in. Our host could not have been more communicative and helpful. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a truly special Hawaiian paradise location away from the hustle and bustle and yet close to Waimea, Waipio and Hilo. 5 stars all around. mary D
