Mar 05, 2025 Shangri La at its best This was a true island experience. The three levels of the house allowed everyone to have their own space and a really great shared space on the second floor. Jul 25, 2024 We had a big family group. House fit our need perfectly. Great locations. Drive to fishing and snorkeling tours were about 10-15 depending on traffic. Drive to shopping and restaurants was 5 mins. Being right in the ocean priceless. Carolyn Palasch

Jun 28, 2024 My wife’s dream was to treat her parents to a Hawaii vacation. We decided to make it happen and invited my parents and my brother’s family too. The location is unbeatable being 1.5 hours from Hilo, 2 hours from Volcano National Park and mins from the Kona waterfront. The house is a bit dated but has everything you really need including an elevator! Kitchen saw very little use but came fully stocked with cups, mugs, dishes, utensils, pots, pans, etc. There were two washers and dryers on the property. The pool and hot tub were nice though went mostly untouched. We didn’t spend much time at home because of all the amazing outdoor activities of the Big Island. There were even beach and ocean equipment available to use onsite. The staff/management team were tremendous and very responsive. Check-in and check-out was a breeze. Codes and instructions were all emailed and texted clearly. There were periodic spot checks by the team throughout the week that were not intrusive. The owner was great answering all my questions prior via the messaging app on VRBO very promptly. My father-in-law must have cried at least 4 times from happiness! Both sets of parents got to spend a lot of quality time with the grandkids. Finally, my FIL summed it up best. “Of all the great memories created in this beautiful place, my favorite was drinking a cup of coffee on the pool deck overlooking the magnificent view of the ocean every morning!” Thank you Hawaii and Shangri La for the wonderful memories! Feb 29, 2024 This home was an amazing stay for our group of 13 adults. The space was nice and functional. It felt clean to us all and we made use of the two full kitchens. There wasn't a huge area for us all to hang out inside, but our needs were met because we spent most of our time outside. The hot tub and pool were utilized frequently by our group along with the outdoor table and grill. We were at what felt like maximum capacity with 13 people, however. Two people were sleeping on futons, not sure where a 14th person would fit. The location was amazing for our needs. The immediate beach outside of the house isn't super swimmable. Some of our more experienced snorkelers and surfers were able to better utilize this area. However, we were able to have our coffee in the mornings with our toes in the sand which was absolutely heavenly. To get to some of the popular beaches it was a drive of 20-45 minutes. Downtown Kona would be a long walk away, but very doable. I would recommend this house. Anna Ferrendelli

Aug 07, 2023 The house was amazing for our varied age ranges and generations. Grandparents enjoyed the tub and location, kids enjoyed the pool, adults enjoyed the hot tub. We grilled, cooked, sat outside, beach combed - all right there! The location was also perfect for getting around town and shopping. Property manager responded within the hour for a question late at night, which was much more than I expected. Gotta say, really great for our growing family. Jasmine Templeton

Mar 11, 2023 This was a long awaited Girls’ Get-Away for myself and my 4 daughters and daughters-in-law. The place was exactly as described and pictured. The pool and hot tub were amazing and super clean. We used the pool everyday. We were right on the ocean and saw sea turtles on our last day there. Every night we were lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves on the shore. The kitchen had everything you needed to cook including those things that are often missing from rentals like measuring cups/spoons, electric mixer, insta-pot, rice cooker, blender, coffee maker and tons of dishes, mugs, glasses, and silverware. All of us felt right at home. All appliances and the elevator which we used daily to get between the “apartments” were all in perfect working order. We had absolutely no complaints or problems with the home at all. We loved every minute of our stay there and would encourage anyone thinking of renting this location to just do it. Kona’s Shangri La by Gather is the epitome of modern luxury. This stunning, custom-designed tri-level home sits right on the edge of the ocean’s rocky shoreline in Kailua-Kona. Perfect for large families or friend groups, this Big Island luxury vacation rental is broken up into three separate units, providing the maximum amount of privacy while also allowing all of you to come together in the fantastic outdoor space. All three levels of the home offer colossal glass windows and sliding glass doors that reveal the breathtaking views beyond.
Take the outdoor staircase all the way to the top level where a cozy lanai and large sliding glass door welcome you to the open-concept living area of the Penthouse Suite. Windows occupy an entire wall of the room, the top third of which slides open, bringing you closer to the ocean and coastline views that lay beyond and as well as the salty sea breezes. The dining room table and elegant living room furniture are all positioned optimally so the seascape is always within your sightline. The fully-equipped kitchen contains stainless steel appliances, an electric cooktop, sand-colored countertops, and cabinets full of everything you need for food preparation. This suite accommodates up to six people, with two sizable bedrooms boasting a King-size and Queen-size bed respectively, as well as a Queen sleeper sofa in the living room.
