  • Jan 16, 2024 Firstly I would stay there again. The location was superb and the house itself was romantic in its historic nature. The lanai was also excellent and the neighborhood was surprisingly and absolutely quiet. Four things I would improve on: one of the bedrooms needs to have air conditioning the kitchen needs better quality cooking pots and a working grill the master bathroom had no water pressure when water was being used in the lower house better quality vacuums and mops for being able to keep the house clean would have been nice Dennis Brooks
  • Aug 10, 2022 Just Right for Our Group! This house was well-suited for our group of seven, ages 23-82. The bedroom on the main level was great for our "wise one" as she didn't have to negotiate long stairwells. The master is awesome - taking the entire top floor. The master tub and rain shower were amazing! We put the younger group of four downstairs in the two bedrooms and bath (and half kitchen) down there, and used the Movie room downstairs most nights for family gatherings and fun. Everyone said the beds were very comfortable. The kitchen is spacious and worked great for us, with both enough space for dinners in and a large fridge for keeping our leftovers from dinners out. We loved the location. At sunrise, you get a beautiful view of Diamond Head from the upstairs windows. At sunset, we walked half a block to the ocean access to watch the sunset over the Pacific. It's also walking distance to several of the easternmost Waikiki beaches, and an easy 5-10 minute drive from the rest. It's 20-25 minutes to Hanauma Bay and half an hour to Waimanalo Beach - one of our favorites. And there is a ton of good food for any meal on Monsarrat or Kapahulu Avenues just 5-10 minutes away. From start to finish, Jenni was a great communicator and host for our trip. Everything was organized and spelled out and the experience definitely met and exceeded our expectations! Built in 1926 and beautifully remodeled with modern luxuries, Hale Mahie is notable as an example of the Spanish Colonial Revival style, popularized in Hawaii in the 1920s and early 1930s. Formally known as the Egholm Residence, the historic Diamond Head vacation cottage enjoys additional significance as the work of famed architect Carl William Winstedt.

Hale Mahie offers 3,795 sq. ft. of stunning architecture and elegant comfort. Comprising the entire third floor, the primary suite boasts a king-size Balinese-style bed, peek-a-boo ocean and Diamond Head views, a large walk-in closet, and a luxurious bathroom with an open rain-style shower and marble soaking tub. The main floor includes a second beautiful bedroom and en suite bathroom, while the lower level provides two additional bedrooms, another full bathroom, and an additional half kitchen. The home also features an expansive kitchen with marble counters, custom cabinets, and top-of-the line appliances, as well as a media room, an office, and a reading nook.

One of the most celebrated surf spots on Oahu, known by locals as “Tongs,” is directly across the street from the rental cottage. Take a 10-minute walk from the home to world-famous Waikiki Beach and the bustling Waikiki strip, where you’ll find endless options for fine dining and shopping. A number of other attractions are also within walking distance, including the Honolulu Zoo, Waikiki Aquarium, Diamond Head hiking trails, Kapiolani Park, and public tennis courts.
