Discover Montana
Unforgettable experiences await in the vast western playground of Montana. Between the snow-capped mountains to the west and the rolling golden plains to the east, there are renowned national parks, rushing rivers, placid lakes, ancient forests, vibrant college towns and ski resorts in between.
Montana vacation rentals allow for complete and authentic immersion in the wilderness, culture and history that rises from the state’s diverse regions. From Big Sky, Whitefish or Bozeman vacation rentals, you can take day trips or weekend getaways to explore the wider state, from Yellowstone National Park to the Continental Divide in Glacier National Park. Whether you’re traveling with friends, family or even pets, these private, luxurious residences have upscale amenities you’re hoping for (WiFi, swimming pools, gourmet kitchens) with the comfortable feeling of home.
Big Sky, between Bozeman and West Yellowstone, is one of the most central places for exploring the wonders of Montana, summer or winter. Summer brings long daylight hours for horseback riding, fly-fishing, championship golf and abundant hiking.. Go kayaking on the peaceful Gallatin River or mountain biking on miles of the area’s only lift-served trails. There are festivals for days, celebrating everything from bluegrass to bull riding.
When the snowflakes fly, life in Big Sky revolves around the powdery slopes – 5,850 acres of them, to be exact. Snow blankets the northern Rocky Mountains, making for epic groomers and challenging backcountry runs, as well as pleasant Nordic skiing through the forest. Not a skier or snowboarder? Go snowshoeing or snowmobiling. Take a snowcoach tour or a horse-drawn sleigh ride. Try dog sledding – or, slip away to an indulgent spa for a well-deserved wellness retreat.
And, of course, there’s Yellowstone National Park, so close by. Drive the park’s famous loops to experience the geologic gems and wildlife of America’s first national park. Later, having played outside all day, return to your lavish Montana vacation rental to cook up a feast in your state-of-the-art kitchen or soak those weary muscles in a private hot tub, gazing out over the mountains. Or, head into town for Big Sky’s fantastic dining and nightlife. Dine on locally inspired dishes, like cedar-plank mushrooms and smoked elk meatballs.
Bozeman vacation rentals also make an excellent homebase for exploring greater Montana. Surrounded by the Rocky Mountains, the iconic “M” on the mountainside welcomes you to this university town. Before heading into the Custer Gallatin National Forest to hike, fish, ski and soak in hot springs, take time to browse the boutiques, breweries and bevy of restaurants along Main Street. Get your bearings at the Museum of the Rockies, then head out to play.
From both Bozeman and Big Sky vacation rentals, it’s easy to venture further into the state. Visit the small, but super-fun town of Ennis in Madison County along the Madison River. Take a dog-sled ride, then sip a bourbon and listen to live music at a local distillery – or treat the kids to old-fashioned soda pop at the Ennis Pharmacy.
Get a good dose of nature (as if there’s not enough everywhere you look in Montana) at the Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park, with 10 miles of hiking trails within 3,000 acres of protected land and a collection of limestone caverns. Sign up for the tour to see the largest, most active and most decorated parts of the cave. If you’re a birdwatcher, be sure to bring your binoculars.
Or, go back in time in Virginia City, a National Historic Landmark District. This Old West Victorian town encapsulates life during the Gold Rush. Ride the train along the Virginia City Shortline Railroad and pan for treasure at the River of Gold.
Closer to Glacier National Park in the northwestern part of the state, Whitefish vacation rentals are known for their proximity to great skiing, mountain biking, hiking and, of course, access to the activities within the national park.
Wherever you choose to make your home while vacationing in Montana – whether selecting from Bozeman vacation rentals, Big Sky luxury home rentals or residences in Whitefish or beyond, your family can recharge and reconnect in style – with all the trappings of a true western adventures, with the luxurious appointments you crave.
