I very much appreciated all of the additional amenities offered in the property. The owners offer many things that are useful for a beach vacation (beach towels, body boards, sun umbrella, snorkeling sets, and chairs)! Additionally, the kitchen is stocked with a blender, rice cooker, and many other things needed for a longer stay on the island. The only thing to note is if someone has younger kids, the grounds & HOA have a lot of rules that may make the stay a bit more stressful than staying at a place that caters more to families. Flanked by iconic Ali’i Drive and the rocky shores of the Pacific Ocean, the Big Island’s Kona Makai Condominiums provide the perfect backdrop to your Hawaiian vacation. As you make your way to Unit 2103, a recently upgraded one bedroom, one bath condo with an outdoor lanai and an ocean view, you’re surrounded by tropical flowers and shaded by tall palm trees. Kona Makai has much to offer in the way of both beauty and amenities, offering an impressive array of options that your entire party will enjoy, so you can relax, have fun, and make the most of your time in sunny Kailua-Kona.

As you turn the corner from the foyer to the great room, the gleaming white travertine floors you’ll find throughout the unit make the space feel bright and elegant. The kitchen has been modernized with stainless steel appliances and a neutral backsplash to match the cabinetry. The multi-functional breakfast bar maintains the open concept floor plan while also providing some separation from the adjacent living room, and offers additional counter space to prepare meals or to sit down for a quick snack. The furnishings in the living room are modern and stylish, and include a queen sleeper sofa where two additional guests can sleep, watch TV, or simply gaze out the sliding glass doors to the outdoor lanai and tropical landscaping beyond. You’ll want to devour every meal at the outdoor dining table, where the calm ocean breeze will keep you cool and glimpses of the bright blue ocean will leave you in awe.

In the bedroom, the air conditioning and ceiling fan ensure your comfort so you can sleep in and enjoy the garden view from your king-size bed. The unit also has a well appointed bathroom which includes a walk-in shower with beautiful tile details and a washer/dryer unit conveniently located in the kitchen.

At Kona Makai, you’ll find a full day of fun just steps away from your front door. Start your day with a workout at the fitness center, then play doubles on the tennis court or challenge each other to a ping pong match at the Rec Center. After an active morning, soak your muscles in the jacuzzi, then cool off in the oceanside pool or sunbathe on the loungers. Grill some hamburgers at the BBQ facilities for an easy dinner, and sit at a table in the common area to gaze out over the endless water, watching the bright sun disappear beyond the horizon.

If you feel compelled to venture beyond the complex, Kahalu’u Beach Park is just a short drive away and an ideal place for snorkeling, as you’ll be able to see a variety of fish, and may even spot a sunbathing turtle. Don’t miss your chance to tour a coffee farm, like Greenwell Farms, to see how authentic Kona Coffee is made, and then take the opportunity to sample their delicious brews. Rent a four-wheel-drive and make the drive up to Mauna Kea’s summit. The stunning sunset and the opportunity for epic stargazing make the trip absolutely worthwhile.

Please be aware that external concrete repairs (spalling) will be taking place on the complex, which may impact this unit, for several weeks between 2024 and the second quarter of 2025 (excluding major holidays). The work is scheduled to occur Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. While we do not control the work schedule, we will pass along updates as more specific details become available. To help offset any inconvenience caused by the construction, we have proactively applied discounts to the rates for stays during this period. We appreciate your understanding and will continue to keep you informed as the timeline becomes clearer.
