  • Mar 24, 2024 The house on Pukao Beach Drive was epic! PROS: The location couldn't be better (right on the beach, on the water). The house was super convenient and had a lot of extras that we ended up using (e.g, beach towels, beach chairs, etc). The beds were comfy, having three bathrooms and three bedrooms was perfect for our family. And the property management folks were super easy to work with. The general store right across the street is convenient for snacks and staples - but their hours are pretty short so plan ahead! CONS: As mentioned in the listing, the water behind the house is for looking at, not swimming in. DO NOT TRY TO SNORKEL - it's like snorkeling through Mordor. Every rock and creature is sharp. Go a short distance away to "Beach 69" where the snorkeling is much better! Matt Linton

  • Nov 18, 2023 What an amazing house. Direct access to the ocean, which provided endless entertainment for the adults and teenagers of our group - interesting rocks, wildlife, fish. We were fascinated by the flow of the tide every day and night. The public beach preserve (4 minutes north) was actually the best snorkeling spot I’ve ever experienced. There is a store across the street for items and you are only 15 minutes away from Waimea or other locations with restaurants, so it is extremely convenient to stay here. The house itself is clean and spacious and well supplied. Grandma enjoyed waking up early and spending time on the lanai to watch the waves come in. Wish we could have stayed longer! David Gauthier

The beds were extremely comfortable, the kitchen fully outfitted, and everything was marked so you didn't have to go through every cabinet to find what you were looking for! The location could not be any better! Tide pools right out the back door and depending on the tide, even a little swim area for littles. Saw turtles, eels, fish, & dolphins right out the back door!   • Jan 21, 2023 The Puako home is absolutely beautiful, breathtaking location right on the ocean (great spot for whale spotting!) with the gently rolling green hills of Waimea in the back ground. Situated between Waikoloa Village, Hapuna Beach and Mauna Kea Beach Hotel you really have the perfect Big Island location but with the quiet and privacy for an idyllic getaway. The home is immaculate, simple lay out, no clutter, sparkling clean, a relaxing vibe as soon as you walk in, with all the amenities and more to make it completely stress free, enabling you to focus on having a great family holiday. We have been lucky enough to visit the Islands for many years and I can honestly say this is by far the best home and location we have stayed at. The hosts were super helpful and kind, they were only a TEXT away if you needed anything. I would highly recommend this five star location. Thank you. Robert Coombes

She had never been to Hawaii and I must say, she couldn’t have stayed at a better place to take it in. Property management was great and responsive. This oceanfront Kohala Coast home with breathtaking coastline views offers the ultimate setting for a once-in-a-lifetime escape to paradise. Decorated in a tranquil, elegant island style, it features two primary suites, central air conditioning, and two stories of covered lanais for full enjoyment of indoor/outdoor Hawaiian life.

A sprawling great room boasts vaulted ceilings, an abundance of inviting seating, and a substantial flat-screen television. The living space flows effortlessly into a formal dining area for eight, which in turn transitions seamlessly into a gorgeous, fully equipped kitchen with bar seating. Wireless internet, a Sonos audio system, and a large laundry room with a washer, dryer, laundry sink, and additional refrigerator ensure that guests have all the conveniences of home.

One spacious primary bedroom with a king-size bed, large flat-screen television, spa-like en suite bathroom, and dedicated office space (with a printer/scanner/fax) occupies the entire upper floor of the home. A downstairs primary also offers a king-size bed, large flat-screen television, and full en suite bathroom. Both feature spectacular ocean views and open directly onto covered lanais. A third beautiful bedroom has two twin beds along with its own flat-screen television and full bathroom. The twin beds can be converted to a king with advance notice.

The home's shaded lanais provide the perfect spots for a leisurely cup of morning coffee or a restorative afternoon nap. The lower lanai also includes a lovely open-air dining space for six. Just beyond, guests have the option of lounging on the lush lawn in the peace of a panoramic Pacific view, surrounded by gently swaying palms. With just a few more steps, your toes will be in the sand.

This Puako estate home on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island is a short drive from other stunning stretches of sand such as Hapuna Beach, and the area's sunny weather and clear waters make it an ideal location for snorkeling and scuba.
